Woman Who Admits to Killing Neighbor with Baseball Bat Charged with Murder

A woman who allegedly admitted to beating her neighbor to death with a baseball bat in San Mateo on Saturday has been charged with murder, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Brenda Martinez, 40, is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on the murder count as well as an enhancement for use of a deadly weapon, Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti said.
Martinez arrived at the San Mateo Police Department at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and said she had killed her neighbor, identified as 66-year-old Ellen Mackay.

Officers responded to Mackay’s home in the first block of North Claremont Street and found her dead of head trauma inside with the baseball bat nearby.
