2-Day Controlled Burn Scheduled In San Rafael

Residents may see or smell smoke Thursday and Friday in the North Bay as a two-day controlled burn is planned in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A two-day controlled burn is scheduled Thursday and Friday in San Rafael, according to the Marin County Fire Department. The controlled burn is a training exercise for the department’s seasonal firefighters.

Officials said 69 seasonal firefighters will participate in the exercise, in an effort to prepare for battling wildfires throughout the region and state. It will be the first live burn for 30 new firefighters.

The controlled burn is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday near the St. Vincent School for Boys in San Rafael. Residents may see or smell smoke in the area.
