Suspect Who Pistol Whipped Homeowner During Marin Burglary Arrested: Police

Investigators said the victim confronted an intruder inside his home before a violent struggle broke out.

SAN ANSELMO, CA — A suspect was arrested in Stockton Tuesday in connection with an armed San Anselmo home burglary that left a resident injured and prompted an hours-long police search in June, authorities said.

Jasjot Singh Deol, 21, of Stockton, was arrested Tuesday after Central Marin Police detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals surveilled his residence for several weeks, police said.

The arrest came more than two months after the June burglary at a home on Island Drive near the San Rafael border, police said.

The homeowner encountered an intruder inside the residence around 5:39 p.m. on June 15 and a physical altercation followed. Police said the intruder struck the resident with a handgun before fleeing east on Island Drive. No shots were fired.

The homeowner was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Central Marin and San Rafael officer established a perimeter around the neighborhood and issued a shelter-in-place order because the suspect was believed to be armed. K-9 teams and a drone were also brought in during the search.

After several hours, police lifted the shelter-in-place order and said investigators believed the suspect had left the area in a vehicle as officers arrived.

Police said videos and images provided by residents in San Anselmo and San Rafael ultimately helped investigators identify Deol.

Detectives arrested Deol on Tuesday and executed a search warrant with the Stockton Police Department.

Deol was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of felony elder abuse, felony battery causing serious injury, first-degree robbery and assault with a firearm.
