Marin History Museum Podcast Wins Award

The Marin History Museum was the proud recipient of the Dave Byrd Certificate of Meritorious Performance and Promise Award, which is given to an individual, organization, or agency accomplishing an outstanding contribution to the promotion of history.  This award, bestowed upon the Museum by the California Council for the Promotion of History is one of the top historical honors such a production series may receive. The award was announced Monday October 10th, and will be formally presented to the Museum at the annual California Council for the Promotion of History conference in Riverside on October 22nd.

Launched in April 2011, the Marin History Museum’s podcast series is researched and narrated by professional voice over actor and volunteer George Thelen. The series is a tool to educate, inform and entertain audiences on the history of Marin County giving the public access to the vast collection of materials and information in the Marin History Museums ever expanding archives. The series covers the people, places and things that made Marin County what it is, and keeps with Marin History Museum’s mission to preserve the past while building the future.

Each month, a series of three complementary episodes are released focusing on the People, Places and Events that made Marin County what it is today. Although part of a larger series, each series episode is a stand-alone production running approximately 15 minutes. Past podcasts have featured a variety of topics from local arctic explorer Louise Arner Boyd, to Rancho Olompali, a walking tour of historic downtown San Rafael, and a regular comedic segment titled “This Month In History.”  These popular episodes have been exceptionally well received, with reviewer History Listener stating “Great podcast! Informative and nicely produced. Goes beyond local interest. One of the best museum podcasts I've heard.”
