Think of the ocean the way you think of daylight — sea animals need sound the way we need light to see. Whales find mates with it. Dolphins hunt with it. Baby fish use it to find home reefs. Sound is not optional for them. It is survival.

But the ocean has been getting louder for decades from:

  • Massive cargo ships
  • Seismic surveys
  • Military sonar
  • Offshore wind farms
  • Underwater communication and tracking systems

Join Marin Green Drinks on May 12 at Lotus Cuisine of India with guest speaker Michael Stocker, Director of Ocean Conservation Research. Explore how Ocean Noise, energy use, and the industrialization of the ocean are reshaping marine life.

Marine animals can't escape it. The noise disrupts how they eat, communicate, and navigate. In extreme cases, it causes hearing loss or drives whales to strand on beaches.

We call plastic and oil "pollution" — but sound is an invisible toxin too. The difference is we just can't see them.

The sea cannot speak for itself. But you can. Spread this. The animals beneath the surface are counting on those of us above it. Learn more at maringreendrinks.com and don't forget to RSVP at tinyurl.com/mgd051226.
