Woman Injured in Car Crash at Northgate Mall
Driver extricated from badly damaged vehicle, taken to Marin General; no other injuries reported.
A woman who was driving a small car was transported to the hospital after her vehicle crashed into the side of in San Rafael, a fire official said.
San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray said paramedics with the fire department transported one person, the female driver, to Marin General Hospital after today's single-vehicle crash near the entrance to the mall's movie theater around 3:15 p.m. The car reportedly struck the outside of the mall between the entrance and the entrance.
Gray said the woman was trapped in the small gray sedan after it struck the building. She was alone in the car and no one else was injured, Gray said. He did not know the extent of her injuries.

"San Rafael Fire and Rescue personnel extricated one patient who was trapped and the sole occupant of the vehicle," said Gray in a statement. "The patient was treated and transported Code 3 to ." Code 3 refers to an emergency vehicle traveling with emergency lights and siren.
"There was significant damage to the vehicle," said Gray. "Fortunately no other injuries occurred as a result of this incident."

The Marin IJ reported this morning that the driver was a 78-year-old woman, but her identity was not released.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation
