Coronavirus: Marin County Sees Signs Of Flattening The Curve
There is evidence that staying home and social distancing are working to slow the spread of the coronavirus in Marin County.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — There is evidence that staying home and social distancing are working to slow the spread of the coronavirus in Marin County, health officials said.
"Importantly, the number of tests performed daily in Marin County has increased, and yet we've seen a trend of decreases, overall, in the number of cases diagnosed," Dr. Matt Willis, the county's public health officer, said in his Wednesday coronavirus update.
Officials reported 13 new cases of the virus Wednesday, bringing the county's case count to 184. The COVID-19 death toll stands at 10.

According to Willis, the one-day spike in cases is a result of the county's new strategy of sending teams of testers into high-risk settings across Marin for early detection and intervention of any outbreaks in the community.
"This reinforces the point that while we're seeing a general downward trend despite more testing overall, the virus is still with us, and we expect ongoing transmission," Willis said. "This is one of the most important indicators we'll be tracking as we make any potential changes to the shelter-in-place order."

As of Wednesday, Marin has tested 2,343 people for COVID-19. This number includes tests conducted at the county's drive-thru testing site as well as tests conducted by commercial labs and hospitals. That's up from 2,145 on Tuesday.
In addition to the number of diagnosed cases, the number of hospitalizations also shows a downward trend.
Of the people who have tested positive, 32 have been hospitalized since the pandemic first hit the county. Only two patients remained hospitalized Wednesday. The county also reported that 121 residents have recovered from the virus.
