County To Consider Interim Vendor For San Geronimo Golf Course

Ultimately, the county plans to purchase the golf course in San Geronimo with The Trust for Public Land for $8.5 million.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – The Marin County Board of Supervisors Tuesday will consider a proposal for a Texas-based management company to operate the San Geronimo National Golf Course for two years until the county purchases the 157-acre property.

The county plans to purchase the golf course at 5800 Sir Frances Drake Blvd. in San Geronimo with The Trust for Public Land for $8.5 million. The California Wildlife Conservation Board has recommended awarding a $3.4 million grant toward the county's purchase of property, which is in west Marin County.

County officials will seek $4.9 million from state and private sources to complete the deal.

The golf course is now closed but Marin County Parks kept the course in playable condition for the past few months in anticipation of an operation agreement with Texas-based Touchstone Golf, the 10th largest American-based golf course management company.

With direct ties to the Bay Area, the company manages 35 golf courses, including 11 that are owned by municipal governments. Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco, Franklin Canyon Golf Course in Hercules, Lake Chabot Golf Course in Oakland, and Redwood Canyon Golf Course in Castro Valley are among the Bay Area courses under Touchstone management. In December 2017, the city of Vallejo entered into a contract with Touchstone to manage Blue Rock Springs Golf Course.

There will be public hearings this spring on the future use of the golf course property after the county's purchase and the two-year operating agreement with Touchstone Golf expires.
