Crews Search For Missing Boater In Tomales Bay

BREAKING: A boater was reported missing Tuesday in Tomales Bay. Crews have recovered an unmanned motorboat.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Fire and rescue personnel are searching for a boater who was reported missing Tuesday on Tomales Bay.

The missing man has been identified as a 70-year-old male employee of Tomales Bay Oyster Company, according to the Marin County Fire Department. The man was reportedly by himself and not wearing a personal floatation device.

An employee at the Hog Island Oyster Company in Marshall, an unincorporated community in Marin County, reported the missing boater at 3:13 p.m., according to the Marin County Fire Department. The Hog Island Oyster Company boat made a mayday radio call and the U.S. Coast Guard dispatched a full response.

Using rescue watercrafts, personnel from the Marin County Fire Department, Southern Marin Fire and the U.S. National Park Service have responded to the scene. The California Highway Patrol, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Coast Guard are also supporting the search with helicopters, according to fire officials.

Crews recovered an unmanned motorboat, which officials said was seen going around in circles without anyone visible on the boat. The boat's operator remains missing as of early Tuesday evening.
