Dead Man Found in Crashed Car on San Rafael Sidewalk: Police

Police say the mysterious death happened within an hour of them speaking with the same man in another incident.

SAN RAFAEL, CA- San Rafael police are investigating the death of a 63-year-old Marin County man who was found unresponsive inside a crashed vehicle, the agency reports.

According to Lt. Ralph Pata, officers responded to a report of a crash on Kerner Boulevard at Larkspur Street at 11:53 a.m. Tuesday. When they got to the scene, they found a blue Honda Civic crashed across the sidewalk.

"Inside the car a 63-year-old Marin County resident was found unresponsive," Pata said. "It was determined that he had no pulse."

Despite attempts at lifesaving efforts by police and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Pata said.

According to the lieutenant, police immediately recognized the man— as they had just made contact with him.

"SRPD Officers recognized that the man in the car was a person they just talked to regarding a disturbance at 10:54 a.m. a few blocks away," he said. "At the earlier call SRPD Officers responded to a fight call between this man and another San Rafael man less than one hour before the collision."

Because of how close in time frame these two incidents happened, San Rafael police detectives were called out.

"SRPD Detectives are continuing with their investigation by interviewing witnesses and reviewing video," according to Pata. "The other party involved has been cooperative with Detectives and was released at the scene."
