Driver Dies In Solo-Car Highway 101 Crash
The weekend wreck, that also injured a passenger, was reported near the Central San Rafael on ramp, the CHP said.
SAN RAFAEL, CA – A woman was killed and a passenger injured Saturday afternoon in an accident on northbound Highway 101, south of the central San Rafael onramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Units responded at about 4:45 p.m. to the solo-vehicle collision after 911 callers reported a sedan lost control in the fast lane, collided with the center divide before veering across all lanes and crashing into the barrier on the right shoulder, officials said.
Both vehicle occupants were treated at the scene by paramedics, with the female driver, who sustained major injuries, being transported to Marin General Hospital.

"Despite the life-saving efforts of the paramedics and medical staff at the hospital, we are sad to report that she passed away as a result of her injuries," the CHP said, adding that the passenger was treated for minor injuries and released.
The two, right lanes of U.S. 101 at the crash site were closed until shortly after 6 p.m. as crews investigated the collision, according to authorities.

The driver's name was withheld, at the time, pending notification of kin.
