Stigma, Mental Illness, Resilience & Families


Stephen Hinshaw, PhD, well known author & expert on mental illness, will speak at NAMI Marin's General Meeting. Dr. Hinshaw will link the science underlying stigmatization of mental illness with a personal account of his family's struggles with mental illness. His account will underscore the potential families have for strength and resilience in the face of adversity. 


Hinshaw's books and research have received widespread media attention and he has been interviewed on the Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, TIME Magazine, USA Today, The New York Times and The Washington Post, among other publications.

Hinshaw's most recent book is The Triple Bind: Saving Our Teenage Girls from Today's Pressures. He is also the author of, The Mark of Shame: Stigma of Mental Illness and an Agenda for Change, and The Years of Silence are Past: My Father's Life with Bipolar Disease.
