UPDATE: Woman Burned, Residents Displaced In San Rafael Apartment Fire

BREAKING: Residents and pets from several apartments were evacuated due to the blaze at Bayview Apartments in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A woman was badly burned in a fire Friday morning at a San Rafael apartment complex.

The San Rafael Police Department received a report around 9:15 a.m. about the blaze at Bayview Apartments on Bayview Street. After arriving to the scene, officers said they saw smoke coming from the complex and a woman with extensive burns collapsed in the parking lot. The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment, along with another victim suffering from smoke inhalation.

According to officials, residents and pets from several apartments were evacuated and displaced. One apartment was completely destroyed by the fire, while six to eight other units in the four-story building were damaged due to heavy smoke.

Firefighters and paramedics from San Rafael Fire Department, along with personnel from Larkspur, Novato and Marin County fire departments, assisted in extinguishing the fire, evacuating residents and offering medical aid.

Due to the fire, the area was closed until further notice. In an email alert, officials advised residents to avoid Bayview Street from D Street to Marin Street.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
