The Garden: An Alfresco Studio for Impressionist Painters

Artists have portrayed flowers and plants throughout history, but the garden served as an inspiration for many Impressionist painters. Among the most enthusiastic gardeners were Caillebotte, Monet, Renoir, and Cézanne. Which came first—an interest in the garden or in painting—is not always easy to determine.
