It is the second time the District 3 supervisor will serve as president.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Supervisor Kathrin "Kate" Sears was sworn in Tuesday as president of the Marin County Board of Supervisors.

It is the second time the District 3 supervisor will serve as president. Sears, who lives in Sausalito, was voted to the post unanimously during the board's first meeting of the new calendar year. She replaces outgoing board president Damon Connolly.

The board selected Katie Rice as vice president and Dennis Rodoni as second vice president. Supervisors Judy Arnold and Damon Connolly were also sworn in to new four-year terms on the board.

Sears said the board faces challenges of creating a just and more equitable Marin County, as well as the issues of climate change and sea level rise.

"This will require our renewed commitment to excellent communication and collaboration both inside county government and with all who hold a stake in creating a better future," Sears said.

Sears, an attorney for 16 years, was appointed to the board by Gov. Jerry Brown in May 2011 after Supervisor Charles McGlashen died. She was elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016.

District 3 includes Belvedere, Mill Valley, Sausalito, Tiburon and the communities of Almonte, Alto-Sutton, Marin City, Strawberry and Tamalpais in unincorporated Marin County.

The Board of Supervisors adopts annual budgets, adopts policies, appoints non-elected department heads and establishes programs for 22 county departments.
