MAGC Participates in National Public Gardens Week

It has become an annual tradition from the Friday before to the Sunday after Mother’s Day, for many of the nation’s public gardens to offer special events and activities for schools, families and thousands of visitors to explore and discover their local public garden, while learning about each garden’s commitment to education, research and environmental stewardship.

Participation in this event is open to all public gardens, botanical gardens, educational gardens, specialty gardens, entertainment gardens, arboreta, farm gardens, historical landscapes, and zoos that are members of the American Public Gardens Association. Each institution embraces National Public Gardens day in their own unique way.

While this year many gardens are closed or limiting access because of the COVID-19 crisis, Marin Art & Garden Center and the other members of the APGA are still participating in this special week, with online content and more. Our grounds are open to foot traffic and with observation of social distancing rules, so you can celebrate with other public gardens around the country.

There is no better time to find your #publicgarden and support their mission. Estimates suggest that collectively, public gardens are losing over $3M USD per day in earned revenue, which is about 63% of their total revenue per year. The American Public Gardens Association is a professional organization in the field of public horticulture. National Public Gardens Day was created in 2009 to drive local and national exposure to the importance of building vibrant, relevant gardens committed to community enrichment and environmental responsibility through community engagement, sustainable practices and conversation.
