SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael police arrested an Oregon man on suspicion of burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle Wednesday.

Police were notified around 8:25 a.m. that a wallet and set of keys were stolen from an office at an Andersen Drive auto repair shop. The suspect was seen fleeing in a black Audi, Sgt. Justin Graham said.

A responding officer saw the Audi on Kerner Boulevard and Marian Court and stopped the vehicle, but the suspect sped away, Graham said.

Another officer saw the Audi speeding onto northbound U.S. Highway 101 but the suspect escaped in the vehicle again. A third officer saw the Audi going 100 mph on the highway but ended the pursuit when the suspect made dangerous maneuvers that threatened the public's and officer's safety. The Audi was last seen traveling toward Manuel T. Freitas Parkway, Graham said.

Minutes later, a motorist who saw the pursuit told police the Audi driver was parked at the intersection of Civic Center Drive and Redwood Highway. The motorist said the Audi driver was walking toward offices at the top of a hill and appeared to be armed, Graham said.

Officers responded and found the Audi was not occupied, but they apparently found a hatchet and evidence the Audi was possibly from Oregon. A detective then saw the suspect walking back to where the Audi was found, Graham said.

The suspect, identified as Gonzalo Luna-Hernandez, 43, of Salem, Oregon, allegedly tried to discard the stolen wallet behind a bush but actually discarded his own wallet. Detectives determined the Audi was stolen from a car dealership in Clackamas, Oregon, according to police.

Luna-Hernandez was arrested and booked in the county jail on suspicion of commercial burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading officers, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended Oregon driver's license, Graham said.
