MARIN COUNTY, CA – A suspect in a 2015 Marin City homicide was arrested early Tuesday morning in Fairfield, a Marin County sheriff's lieutenant said.

Fairfield police arrested Joseph Montgomery on a warrant issued in Marin County in May 2015, Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

Montgomery was in possession of a loaded handgun when he was taken into custody, and the sheriff's office will determine whether it was the murder weapon, Scardina said.

Montgomery is suspected of shooting 35-year-old Jermaine Kennedy outside a residence at 79 Cole Drive in Marin City around 1 a.m. on May 10, 2015.

Kennedy had attended a memorial service for a family friend who died in a shooting two weeks earlier in the Sacramento area, according to the sheriff's office.
