Marin County Man Arraigned On Murder Charges
Jan Neal, 43, allegedly stabbed and killed a 55-year-old man Saturday in downtown Mountain View, according to prosecutors.
SAN JOSE, CA – A Marin County resident was arraigned on murder charges on Wednesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court after he allegedly stabbed and killed a 55-year-old man on Saturday in downtown Mountain View, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said Jan Neal, 43, was also charged with resisting arrest and attempting to remove or take an officer's firearm in the midst of a fight with the 55-year-old in downtown Mountain View on Saturday night. Police said that the victim, whose identity hasn't been release, died at a hospital on Sunday night.
Neal allegedly stabbed the victim around 6:30 p.m. Saturday during a physical altercation in the courtyard of the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts.

According to police, witnesses say Neal was the aggressor who kicked and punch the victim in the head as he was lying unconscious on the ground. In addition, witnesses said Neal picked up a bicycle, a metal chair and metal table, took each item separately over his head and slammed it into the victim's head and torso several times.
At the scene, officers saw Neal attacking the victim. Officers ordered Neal to stop, but he did not respond to them, police said.

Officers attempting to restrain Neal were unable to deter him with a Taser and wood baton, police said. Neal also, at one point, tried to grab a firearm away from an officer's holster but was unsuccessful.
At one point Neal appeared to bite at the victim's neck, according to police. Officers were eventually able to restrain him.
The victim was taken to Stanford Hospital where he was in serious, but stable condition, according to police, and later died on Sunday. Police said the victim had severe facial stab wounds and his right eyeball was completely removed from the eye socket. Neal was also taken to a hospital for treatment of an elevated heart rate.
Police said they do not yet know what caused the altercation between the two men or if they knew each other.
