Meet San Rafael's New City Clerk
San Rafael resident Lindsay Lara has worked in the city clerk's office since 2014, most recently as interim city clerk.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – San Rafael has a new city clerk.
The San Rafael City Council on Tuesday appointed Lindsay Lara, who has worked in the city clerk's office since 2014, as the city's new clerk. She most recently served as interim city clerk and previously as deputy city clerk.
"Lindsay's track record is impressive and her passion for the community is evident," Mayor Gary Phillips said in a statement. "She's been a pleasure to work with so far and we are thrilled to see what's to come. San Rafael will be better for it."

During her time in the city clerk's office, Lara's accomplishments has included digital modernization efforts and improved government transparency through a searchable database of public records, online applications and streamlined agenda preparation.
"As a Marin native and San Rafael resident, my heart is here," Lara said. "I look forward to making more strides in increasing civic participation, community engagement, diversity and inclusion, and government transparency."

Lara replaces Esther Beirne, who retired in January, after 10 years as the city's elected city clerk.
Lara is expected to be sworn in on March 5 to fill the remaining term through Dec. 7, 2020. Her starting annual salary will be $100,416, according to the city.
The position will be up for election in 2020.
