Nation's Highest Gas Prices Found In North Bay

A sudden, significant jump in the cost of fuel has pushed Bay Area averages to over $6 per gallon in some cities.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Marin County now has the highest gas prices of any major metropolitan area in the country, according to AAA.

On Monday, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline across Marin County was $6.07 per gallon, the highest in the nation among major cities tracked by AAA. San Francisco was also $6.07 per gallon, while Sonoma County averaged $6.03 and Alameda County $5.89.

The recent price spike has been dramatic. AAA figures show that Bay Area drivers are paying about $1.20 more per gallon than they were a month ago, a jump that coincides with the start of the Iran war.
