Openings On Marin County Assessment Appeals Boards

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Marin County is looking for candidates with expertise in real estate, accounting, law or property appraisal to join its two Assessment Appeals Boards.

Members of the Assessment Appeals Boards are appointed by the Marin County Board of Supervisors. The boards hear appeals by property owners regarding value assessments by the county assessor.

In recent years, the caseload of the state-mandated Assessment Appeals Boards have necessitated hearings about every four weeks. There are two appeals boards, each with three members. Appeals are heard alternately by the two boards and may include additional meetings. Board members are paid a stipend per meeting.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.

Candidates must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in California as one of the following:

• certified public accountant or public accountant
• licensed real estate broker
• attorney
• property appraiser accredited by a nationally-recognized professional organization
• property appraiser certified by the Office of Real Estate Appraisers or by the State Board of Equalization.

Applicants must include documentation of qualifying experience with their application to the Clerk of the Board. Employees of an assessor's office within the past three years are not eligible.
