Bay Area Moreno Institute (BAMI) is accepting applications for the January Psychodrama Training Weekend. Psychodrama training is for people seeking to expand their knowledge of the theory and practice of Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy. Psychodrama Training provides a supportive, stimulating community of learners; a laboratory in which to develop spontaneity as a director, auxiliary, protagonist and group member. The Training will include topics such as working with individuals, spontaneity, directing skills, integrating psychodrama with neuroscience and psychodrama theory, philosophy and history.
Students will have input into specific areas of study and will have numerous opportunities for directing. Group and Individual Case Supervision will be provided at each session using psychodramatic and other action methods. If you are interested in additional supervision/consultation, please let us know.

Training is open to professionals and students in the fields of mental health, law, substance abuse and recovery, creative arts therapies, religion, human services, personnel management, group facilitation and education. 20 training hours may be applied toward certification by the American Board of Examiners. CEU’s for MFT and LCSW are also available.

Hours may also be applied for Drama Therapy (Northern American Association of Drama Therapy) Psychodrama (American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy) and MFT licensure (Approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences).

Sylvia Israel, MFT (mfc #31245), TEP, RDT/BCT, is a nationally certified Psychodrama Trainer, Educator, Practitioner (TEP), Registered Drama Therapist/Board Certified Trainer (RDT/BCT) and Founder/Director of IMAGINE! Center for Creativity and Healing, Founder/past-Director of Bay Area Playback Theatre and Founding member of Bay Area Moreno Institute. She is adjunct faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and has presented at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and at professional gatherings nationally and internationally. Sylvia is past President of the Northern California Chapter of the National Association of Drama Therapy. Her work blends
verbal therapy, psychodrama and other expressive arts. Sylvia specializes in grief and loss, blocks to creativity, trauma and childhood abuse recovery. She maintains a private practice in Marin and San Francisco working with individuals, couples and families.

John Olesen, MA, TEP, A Psychodrama Trainer, John is dedicated to healing through experiential learning. He a founding member of the Bay Area Moreno Institute and a long-term member of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama. John teaches at the Interpersonal Neurobiology, Somatics and Action Methods Certificate Program at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been involved with helping people since the AIDS epidemic the mid-1980’s. He has worked in hospice, HIV prevention and health promotion and has been a facilitator for Positive Being for the last 6 years. For 12 years John was the Clinical Supervisor of the LIFE
Program at Shanti in San Francisco. The Shanti Model of Support, which is both a philosophy and set of techniques, is a way of being with another person that frees both parties to be fully who they are and communicate their feelings to one another. Ultimately, this co-creative work leads to increased self-awareness, relief from suffering, and engagement in more meaningful relationships with others.
