Race Remains Close For Marin County District Attorney

The Marin County Elections Department has until July 5 to certify and report final results to the Secretary of State.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Marin County Supervisor Judy Arnold appears to have retained her Fifth District seat according to updated June 5 primary election results released late Wednesday afternoon.

Arnold has a 557-vote lead over Toni Shroyer. Arnold needs 50 percent of the vote plus one vote to avoid a runoff with Shroyer in November. She has 51.77 percent according to Wednesday afternoon's results.

Deputy District Attorney Lori Frugoli still leads former federal attorney Anna Pletcher by more than 11,000 votes in the race for district attorney. Frugoli has 49.68 percent but needs 50 percent plus one vote to
avoid a runoff with Pletcher in November, according to today's tally.

Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts said 16,000 vote-by-mail ballots in all the other precincts and 3,700 provisional ballots still have to be counted. Elections staff will work Saturday preparing vote-by-mail ballots
for counting, Roberts said.

Verifying provisional ballots for the close races will start this week, and it is the most time-intensive part of an election, Roberts said.

Signatures must be checked against records to ensure voters are registered and have not inadvertently voted twice, Roberts said.

Results will be posted once the provisional ballots are counted for the closest races, Roberts said.

The Elections Department has until July 5 to certify and report final results to the Secretary of State. The Board of Supervisors will formally ratify the results on July 17.
