Rock Legends Come Together for "Whistlestock": A Benefit Concert for Whistlestop on Sunday, September 28th

Big Brother & The Holding Company and Other Rock Legends Come Together for "Whistlestock": A Benefit Concert for Whistlestop

Whistlestop, the largest Marin nonprofit serving older adults, is presenting a benefit concert called “Whistlestock” on Sunday, September 28, to raise funds which will help sustain the organization. The concert will take place at Rancho Nicasio, where an impressive lineup of rock & roll legends will take to the stage to celebrate both the music of the 60s and the 60th anniversary of Whistlestop. Performances will be given by Big Brother and the Holding Company; Country Joe McDonald; Peter Kaukonen from Jefferson Starship; Linda & David LaFlamme, formerly of It’s a Beautiful Day; Sopwith Camel; and Ace of Cups and Friends.

The demand for Whistlestop’s services continues to grow 8 - 10% each year and the organization relies on financial support from generous community donors in order to continue to fulfill its mission. The idea for Whistlestock had its inception in late 2013 when legendary music producer, engineer, videographer and Whistlestop client, Pete Slauson, offered to put together a benefit concert for Whistlestop. Over his 40+-year career in the music business, Pete came to know dozens of Bay Area musicians, and was eager to help Whistlestop raise funds as his way of giving back to the organization that helps him remain independent despite illness.

“It has been a thrill to work with Pete and all of the generous musicians to pull this unique event together,” said Yvonne Roberts of Whistlestop. “We’re optimistic that this benefit concert will bring the community together both in the spirit of music and in giving back.”
