UPDATED: San Rafael Police Say 'Suspicious' Shooting Happened During Robbery
Novato police called San Rafael police on Tuesday when the victim said he was shot in the latter town.
SAN RAFAEL, CA- San Rafael police say they are investigating a shooting in town, which apparently happened during the course of a robbery.
Police Lt. Alan Piombo says a 34-year-old San Rafael man was shot in the leg overnight and drove himself to Novato Community Hospital. The unidentified man told police he was walking in the area of Verdi Street, near Belvedere, when two black men approached in a white car, and robbed him.
"The suspects exited the car and allegedly robbed the suspect," Piombo said in a news release. "During the robbery one suspect shot the victim in the leg. The victim told detectives that one suspect, instructed him not to call the police."

Novato police called San Rafael police around 3:45 a.m. when the victim showed up at the hospital and told them the shooting had occurred in the Canal area, Piombo said.
Investigators interviewed the shooting victim and are trying to corroborate his statement, Piombo said. Police detectives canvassed the area of the shooting, but did not find any suspects.

The victim was released from the hospital on Tuesday, according to police.
