San Rafael Public Works Dept. Snags National Award

The agency and contractors were honored by the American Public Works Association for the city's Public Safety Center.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael’s Department of Public Works just took home a national prize.

The agency and contractors were honored by the American Public Works Association for the city’s Public Safety Center.

The city’s Essential Facilities Strategic Plan, which was approved in 2015, provided guidance for the development of the Public Safety Center as a seismically upgraded essential services facility “capable of serving the community in the event of a major earthquake and other potential disasters.”

The Public Safety Center was funded by Measure E, a voter-approved sales tax measure.

The 1323 Fifth Ave. facility received LEED Gold Certification.
