SMART Reopens Stations, Continues Free Train Service

BREAKING: Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit is providing free service between Sonoma County Airport and downtown San Rafael through Wednesday.

NORTH BAY, CA – Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit is resuming full service Monday after wildfires ravaging the North Bay prompted the closure of two stations and the implementation of a modified schedule last week. SMART will also continue to provide free passenger service through Wednesday.

The Santa Rosa North and Sonoma County Airport stations, which had been closed due to power outages and extreme fire conditions, are now open. Power has also been restored at SMART’s facilities. SMART’s Santa Rosa-based Rail Operations Center had been operating on generator power.

SMART is slated to run 34 weekday trips from Sonoma County Airport to downtown San Rafael, with southbound service starting at 4:19 a.m. out of the Sonoma County Airport station, and northbound service beginning at 5:59 a.m. out of San Rafael. Service will continue mid-day, through the peak commute, and into the evening with the last southbound train departing the Sonoma County Airport station at 6:49 p.m. and the last northbound train departing San Rafael at 8:35 p.m.
