Students headed for 2016 Odyssey of the Mind World competition
A talented team of homeschooled students who meet in San Rafael have earned the opportunity to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind Worlds!
San Rafael, CA is home to a talented group of students who value creativity and outside the box thinking. These students are enrolled in a San Rafael based homeschool cooperative group, CLASS--Creative Learning through ArtS and Sciences--which has participated in the Redwood Region's Odyssey of the Mind program for the last three years. This year, one of the teams of students, self-named the Awesome Flying Banana Casseroles, shouldered the challenge of designing a solution to a classics performance problem called Aesop Gone Viral. These students, aged 10-11 years, together created a performance which not only placed first in their division at the regional tournament, but also placed second at the CA state OotM competition which was held on April 2nd at UC Riverside in LA.
Their success has now given these students an opportunity to compete in this year's World Finals competition, taking place May 25-28th, at Iowa State University in Ames, IA! The students are eager to meet teams from all over the world, as approximately 20 countries participate in the World Finals. Only 34 CA teams qualified for the World Finals, and the San Rafael team made the grade!
The team is now raising funds to finance the travel, dorm room/board, and prop/set shipment for the team members, coaches and chaperone. A gofundme campaign for donations has begun, and individual students are brainstorming additional fundraising efforts.
