Suspect In San Rafael Robbery Spree Arrested: Police

The man was wanted in connection with multiple December and January armed hold-ups in Marin County, officials said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A suspect, Ricardo Jose Escobar Hernandez, allegedly linked to at least five armed hold-ups in recent weeks in Marin County was arrested in San Francisco, according to the San Rafael Police Department.

In each incident from early December to Jan. 14, Hernandez reportedly flashed what appeared to be a black, semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, police said.

  • Dec. 4, 2018: dry cleaner on Bellam Boulevard, San Rafael
  • Dec. 5, 2018: gas station on Ashford Avenue, Mill Valley
  • Dec. 24, 2018: gas station on Ashford Avenue, Mill Valley
  • Dec. 27, 2018: Subway on Irwin Street, San Rafael
  • Jan. 14, 2019: gas station on Lincoln Avenue, San Rafael

Hernandez also may be connected to additional robberies in San Francisco and the East Bay, police said.

Hernandez was identified as a possible suspect through surveillance footage and communications with other police agencies, the department said.

The San Francisco Police Department located Hernandez and "evidence linking him to the crimes," and he was arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail, San Rafael police said Wednesday.

San Rafael and Mill Valley detectives will send their investigations to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office for review for criminal charges.
