2nd Annual 'Dose of Awareness' 5K Walk/Health Expo

Join us for our 2nd Annual 'Dose of Awareness' 5K Walk/Health Expo February 28th, 8:30am-noon at Iron Horse Middle School in San Ramon

Did you know that prescription drug abuse is a national epidemic that now kills more American’s each year than car accidents? Did you know that over 600 of those who died between 2008-2014 were Contra Costa County residents?

March is Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Month, designed to tackle this national epidemic by building community awareness about prescription drug dangers across the state. Join us as we kick off this month with our 2nd Annual “Dose of Awareness” 5K Walk and Health Expo where you’ll walk in memory of thousands of Americans who have been lost to this problem. Our mission is to educate and equip youth and adults of all ages with information and resources that can help keep them safe from prescription drug related impacts.

Besides the 5K non-competitive walk, our Health Expo will provide information and resources in the areas of substance abuse prevention, substance disorder treatment and support and alternative treatment options to consider instead of taking potentially dangerous and addictive medication.

Cheryl Jennings with ABC/KGO News will be our emcee again this year and special guest speakers will help educate and show their support for our event. The event will end with a beautiful memorial to our ’lost loved ones’ that will be led by local Chaplain Nick Vleisides and with special music written and performed by Bay Area’s singer, songwriter and recording artist, Elizabeth Edwards.

This is a family friendly event that will include a Youth Activity Center with lots of fun, interactive educational activities for youth of all ages. Bring your medications that are expired or no longer needed to San Ramon Police Department’s Medication Drop Off and your sharps to the Fire Department who will be accepting them on site that day.
