San Ramon Amazon Kidnapping: New Details Emerge
A language barrier confused a kidnapping victim, San Ramon police told Patch.
SAN RAMON, CA - The Amazon driver kidnapped Saturday in San Ramon was the victim of a fake jewelry scam, San Ramon police told Patch.
On Saturday at around 4 pm, a delivery driver was rear-ended near Crow Canyon Road and San Ramon Valley Boulevard by an SUV. It was initially reported that the suspects forced the driver to withdraw money from nearby ATMs before driving off. However, SRPD Lt. Leysy Pelayso told Patch Tuesday that further investigation has revealed that after the collision, the suspects approached the driver to commit a “fake jewelry scam.”
The driver reportedly misunderstood what was going on due to a language barrier, and “believed something more nefarious was going on.” He then went to a bank in San Ramon where he withdrew money, and attempted to withdraw money from a second bank in Dublin, but the machine did not work.
