Free Pancakes (and other important stuff) at the Senior Center

Announcing the Annual Live Well Resource Fair & Breakfast at the center on Saturday, May 21, 2011, 8:30 am – 1:00pm.

I got an email from Teri Mountford, Program Manager at the Alcosta Senior and Community Center and Gardens.  Teri has been a great help to me in providing information for my Patch.com Off Your Rocker columns for active seniors.

She asked me to put out the word about the upcoming annual Live Well Resource Fair & Breakfast at the center on Saturday, May 21, 2011, 8:30 am – 1:00pm.

I know what you're thinking - Hey! I'm an "active" senior, a baby boomer!  What could I possibly find of interest at the senior center?

Well, how about free pancakes for starters?

Yes, you read it right!  FREE friggin' PANCAKES!  I haven't met a former flower child yet who could pass up a deal like that!

The City of San Ramon invites all seniors, families and caregivers of seniors and “Boomers” to the annual Live Well Resource Fair. The fair will begin at 8:30am where attendees will enjoy a fabulous, free pancake breakfast provided by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.

Professionals on exercise, nutrition, travel, housing, financial advice and much more will be distributing valuable information for anyone 55 and older.

Health professionals will also be on hand to provide various screenings including blood pressure, bone density and more!

New this year!  A panel of experts will address “memory challenges” that older adults may be experiencing, as well as how it can affect their families.

Speakers include: Dr. Eric Freitag, Neuropsychologist; Ruth Gay, Alzheimer’s Association Director; and Linda Hughes, RN. Topics addressed will include assessment and treatment of dementia, and the latest information and treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.

So…live it up and live well and see why it’s a great time to be getting older! For more information visit San Ramon Senior Center, or call (925) 973-3250.

Remember, even if you aren't experiencing memory challenges (and really, who among us over the age of 50 can honestly say we haven't entered a room on occasion and had absolutely no idea why we went there), the information presented could be useful in helping to recognize early signs in our parents, and other older adults we care about.

So mark your calendar - lest you forget. ;-)  And, remember - free pancakes!
