Show: 6:30 PM & 8:30 PM

Meyhouse Jazz welcomes acclaimed vocalist Azure McCall, Hawaii’s celebrated “First Lady of Jazz,” for An Evening with Thelonious Monk — a special program exploring the music and enduring legacy of one of the most distinctive composers in jazz history.

Known for her rich, expressive voice, effortless swing, and natural gift for storytelling, McCall brings a vocalist’s perspective to Monk’s unmistakable musical world. His compositions — angular yet lyrical, playful yet deeply soulful — have become an essential part of the jazz repertoire, offering endless possibilities for interpretation and improvisation.

With warmth, humor, and decades of experience on the international jazz stage, McCall makes each song her own while remaining deeply rooted in the traditions of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae.

A multi-award-winning vocalist, McCall’s remarkable career includes touring as vocalist with legendary bassist Ray Brown, becoming the first singer to work with Freddie Hubbard’s band, and performing alongside artists including Frank Morgan, Joe Lovano, Geoffrey Keezer, Curtis Lundy, and Dizzy Gillespie. She has performed around the world in more than 50 countries and continues to share her deep knowledge of jazz as both a performer and educator.

An Evening with Thelonious Monk brings together two unmistakable musical personalities: Monk’s singular compositions and McCall’s deeply personal approach to song. Expect an intimate evening of swing, improvisation, storytelling, and timeless jazz.
