Club Sport Employees Honored For Saving Danville Man’s Life

The man collapsed while exercising on a treadmill. Fire officials say the incident is a good reminder of the importance of learning CPR.

SAN RAMON, CA — Two Club Sport employees were honored this week for saving the life of a Danville man who suffered a potentially deadly medical emergency while at the San Ramon gym in July. When Hamed Farhadi collapsed while working out on a treadmill, Jessica Terrill and Kevin Smith, who are CPR certified, immediately called 911, administered CPR and utilized an AED.

"Their decision to act, and to act quickly, bridged the gap between the time of cardiac arrest and the arrival of fire district first responders," San Ramon Valley Fire Department officials said in a statement.

Six Firefighter Paramedics arrived within minutes of the call and assumed the emergency care and transport necessary for Farhadi to survive. He was released after several days at San Ramon Regional Medical Center.

“Neither of these Club Sport employees possessed any formal emergency medical training, but they both remained calm, and acted decisively in an almost choreographed effort to save Mr. Farhadi’s life,” the San Ramon Valley Fire Department officials said.
