Contra Costa Relaxes Restrictions For Pools, Worship and Funerals

But the county noted it could adjust reopening timelines as officials monitor the spread of COVID-19.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — With hair salons and barbershops slated to begin reopening Wednesday, Contra Costa County announced the loosening of restrictions pertaining to pools, and indoor religious services and funerals.

The new order allows one swimmer per 75 square feet in a pool, the county announced in a news release.

Up to 100 people are now permitted to attend a religious or funeral service at an indoor place of worship. Previously, no more than 12 people were allowed to attend an indoor worship service.

While this is welcome news for many Contra Costa County residents, the county said that officials could change its timeline to reopen services in the interest of public health.

As more people interact, the county has seen an uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases and hospital bed utilization. These are among the key indicators that county and state public health officials consider when deciding whether to proceed with reopenings.

County health officials are carefully monitoring the data, according to the news release.

As of Tuesday, there were 2,026 COVID-19 cases confirmed in Contra Costa County and 49 deaths linked to the coronavirus.
