Cruise the Star Ferry to get the view of Hong Kong

1. Take a ride on the Star Ferry

Take the Star Ferry from Kowloon to HongKong Island. What a great Hong Kong sightseeing trip!

The ferries have linked the Central District on Hong Kong Island with Tsim Sha Tsui for over 100 years. A local newspaper dated December 28, 1888 stated "Steam launch Morning Star runs daily as a ferry boat between Peddlar's Wharf and Tsim Sha Tsui....There will be no launch on Monday and Friday on account of coaling." It was originally founded under the name of Kowloon Ferry Company and became the Star Ferry Company ten years later. In the early days, the charge was 5 cents.

2. Star Ferry

The Star Ferry runs between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island (learn more via Hong Kong city guide). It carries anybody from buisnessmen to tourists. The boat is comfortable and you can move about freely on board, it is not very cheap about HK$2.50 (£0.20) for a one way ticket but you do have do queue for a while. When on the ferry it is truly worth the waiting. It is probably one of the most memorable things about Hong Kong for me. You get a wonderful view of Hong Kong's skyline and dock facilities. Also looking at the many ships sailing past such as junks, other ferries, fishing boats, container ships, catermerans and many others. Hong Kong is currently reclaiming a lot of land so there are lots of barges carrying stone and sand sailing about they fill the barges so full of goods that they are only about 1or 2 feet above the waterline so the water is literally splashing in over the side, amazing what they do to carry a bit extra cargo! If you have time I also seriosly advise you go on the Star Ferry at night when it is dark because all you can see is lights, neons, and billboards from the many boats and skyscrapers it is truly magic!

3. take the Star Ferry to get...

take the Star Ferry to get across the Victoria Harbour from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central (contain it in your Hong Kong tour packages); take the peak tram to go to the Peak;

Taking the Star Ferry can help you to experience the crossing of the great Victoria Habour and you can see the huge buildings across the 2 shores; there are some tall and stylistic buildings that mark the symbol of financial and commercial centre of Hong Kong.

In the Peak, you can have a look of the landscape and the buildings outline, in the night, can see many neon lights which looks like the numerous stars in the sky. Also, there are some food shops and shopping centre. Taking a walk along the hill is also a good choice.

4. One of the big things to do in...

One of the big things to do in HK is to take the ferry (century-old Star Ferry )that run between the islands of Kowloon and Hong Kong. It is cheap and the vista is just great.

It is a historical ferry.

5. The 10 cents ferry

There are several ferries operating from the harbour at Kowloon but we had never seen a ferry with such a low price (10 cents, about 25 u.s. cents). You must enter on the lower level of the ferry for that price. Unfortunately the ride is not very long since the harbour is small but you get off right in the center of the big buildings in Hong Kong (you should contain it in your packages of last minute China travel deals).
