Dougherty Valley Senior Helping Students Speak At TEDx In Britain

Former TEDx speaker Fatimah Hussain is raising money to help youth speak at TEDx Shaftesbury in the U.K. in March.

SAN RAMON, CA — A Dougherty Valley senior and two-time TEDx speaker is raising money to bring students to speak at a TEDx talk in the United Kingdom.

Fatimah Hussain is coordinating an initiative to bring speakers to TEDx Shaftesbury in March, where youth can give talks on topics like resilience, empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

Hussain and other TEDX alumni are working one-on-one with students before they go on stage, and hosting entrepreneurial workshops and events at schools in London.

She has started a GoFundMe page to cover travel expenses and accommodations.

“When I first started public speaking, I was a wreck. It was absolutely terrifying to speak my thoughts aloud to audiences of hundreds, and I only wish I had a mentor to guide me through the process and maximize my impact and footprint in the world,” she wrote. “As a 17-year-old, I wish I had access to these resources when I first started. Now, I'm building this to reality, but I need your help.”
