Longtime Resident Rajwade Running For District 3 Council Seat

SAN RAMON, CA — Sameera Rajwade is vying for the District 3 San Ramon City Council seat.

DanvilleSanRamon.com first reported the news.

Rajwade, 21, is a first-generation Indian American who moved to the area at three years old, according to their campaign website. Rajwade is campaigning on issues such as climate change, police reform, education reform, community justice, public arts and wealthy equity, though policy proposals were not available as of Tuesday morning.

The Dougherty Valley graduate identifies as non-binary and said their candidacy "is an honor and a reminder of all the Queer activists that have not had the ability to run for office for fear of harm."

"I am running for San Ramon City Council because I love San Ramon and want to fight for all of my fellow residents, not just those whose financial interests are aligned with government officials," Rajwade said on their website.

This will be San Ramon's first district election, meaning voters may only choose a candidate to represent the area they live in. The District 3 seat is currently occupied by Councilmember Philip G. O'Loane, who is serving his second term. In San Ramon, city council members may run for an unlimited number of terms.
