SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong announced his re-election campaign Monday. Armstrong, a 22-year San Ramon resident, has served on the San Ramon City Council since 2021 and as mayor since 2024.

“Serving as mayor of San Ramon has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” he said in a statement. “Our city is an exceptional place to live, work, and raise a family. I am running for re-election to build on the progress we’ve made—keeping our community safe, protecting our neighborhoods and hillside open spaces, and ensuring San Ramon remains fiscally strong and prepared for the future.”

Armstrong listed public safety, protecting neighborhoods and open space, quality of life, and fiscal accountability as his top priorities. He said that he supports keeping the San Ramon Police Department “fully funded, well-trained, and properly equipped,” and wants to work with police to address neighborhood concerns like speeding near schools and parks, property crime, and traffic safety.

“Residents deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods, parks, and schools. I will work to ensure that any state-required housing avoids or minimizes the impact on schools and neighborhoods,” he said in a statement.

He backs concentrating new housing near City Center and transit areas rather than established neighborhoods. He also said he supports partnerships with local organizations to protect open space, preserve scenic views, and maintain access to natural areas.

Armstrong said he is committed to maintaining services like parks, trails, community centers, libraries, recreational facilities, and arts and cultural programs that enrich the city’s quality of life.

To fund these programs, he said he is “committed to responsible budgeting, long-term planning, and protecting taxpayer dollars.”

Armstrong graduated from the United States Military Academy West Point and served 30 years as an infantry officer. After retiring, he held senior leadership roles with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

He and his wife Brenda have lived in San Ramon for 22 years and raised four children there. He serves on numerous boards and committees, including the council’s finance, policy, and infrastructure committees; the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, the Tri-Valley Affordable Housing Committee, Valley Link, and many more.

“There are basically 2 types of cities—those that have serious problems and must spend their time and resources focusing on how to mitigate or solve them; and those cities that, because of good past leadership and decisions can focus on the choices and opportunities ahead of them,” Armstrong said in a statement. “San Ramon is a city that has a continuing bright future if we make the right choices and pick the right leaders. I hope you will give me a chance to continue that leadership.”
