The East Bay police department braved the chilly water in Santa Cruz.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — Employees of the San Ramon Police Department and their families recently braved the icy cold ocean in Santa Cruz for a great cause. Team SRPD Freeze Poleeze! participated in the annual Polar Plunge at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and raised $7,000 in the process.
“As an agency focused on community service and support, the San Ramon Police Department is proud to do what we can to help the Special Olympics of Northern California," Lieutenant Denton Carlson said via email. "Day in and day out, the Special Olympics does an incredible job providing opportunities for their athletes. We were honored to play a small role in supporting the great work of the Special Olympics.”
Groups from all over the Bay Area form teams and turn out to plunge into the frigid water at the events scheduled throughout Northern California each year. The average water temperature in the ocean in March is just over 50 degrees, according to Current Results.
