San Ramon School Makes AP Honor Roll Gold List

See which high school was recognized for its commitment to improving college readiness through AP courses.

SAN RAMON, CA — Dougherty Valley High School was named to the AP School Honor Roll Gold-level list, a new designation given to schools that show a commitment to maximizing college readiness.

Dougherty Valley and San Ramon Valley High School were two of 4,570 schools around the country that made the honor roll. SRVHS received a Silver with Access designation, meaning it has demonstrated a “clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.”

The award was created in October 2023 to recognize schools that “reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.”

To be recognized, schools needed to fulfill the following metrics:

  • 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least one AP exam during high school
  • 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam
  • 2% or more of the graduating cohort took five or more AP exams during high school, at least one of which was taken in 9th or 10th grade.

“Congratulations to our AP students and staff for receiving the Gold Distinction on the AP Honor Roll,” DVHS Principal Evan Powell said in an email shared with Patch. “Our students set very high learning expectations of themselves and this honor is yet another affirmation that they can achieve at high levels. I am proud of our staff for the dedication and hard work that this recognition exemplifies and am thankful to our parent community for their continued support.”

DVHS has received numerous recognitions. In September, U.S. News ranked it the third best high school in the Bay Area, and the 19th best in California based on college readiness, subject proficiency, graduation rates, and more. It was also ranked the 25th best public school in the Bay Area by Niche.
