San Ramon SWAT Team Arrestee Tied To SF-Based Gang: SFPD

New information has emerged on a high-risk arrest in San Ramon on April 27 carried out by multiple agencies.

SAN RAMON, CA — Further information has emerged regarding an April 27 SWAT team operation in San Ramon that resulted in what the San Ramon Police Department called a “high-risk arrest.”

San Ramon Police joined the Central County SWAT Team and personnel from several other local police departments in a joint takedown operation that resulted in an arrest at around 4:30 a.m.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, which led the operation, Kameron Kaywood, age 34, was one of five people throughout the Bay Area arrested on suspicion of criminal street gang activity. Since the start of 2023, the SFPD’s Community Violence Reduction Team and Crime Gun Investigations Center have been investigating the San Francisco-based gang, which they allege committed multiple violent and property crimes throughout the Bay Area.

On April 19, SFPD officers arrested 29-year-old Maurkece Johns in San Francisco. Officers obtained a warrant to search Johns’ home, where they seized two firearms, ammunition, and other evidence related to the investigation.

On April 27, officers from the SFPD, SRPD, Central County SWAT team, and several other local agencies simultaneously served six warrants that resulted in four arrests, the seizure of multiple firearms, firearm accessories, ammunition, and other evidence.

Kaywood was arrested alongside 29-year-old Eric Jones of Concord, 34-year-old Dajaun Menifee of Hercules and 23-year-old Johnnie Leonard of Alameda.

Kaywood was booked at Alameda County Jail for an outstanding warrant out of Contra Costa County for numerous firearm-related charges. He has been charged with:

  • Possession of an assault rifle
  • Possession of a firearm when convicted of a violent crime
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Felon in possession of ammunition
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm as a prohibited person
  • Possession of a large-capacity magazine.
