San Ramon Teen Donates Projector To Oakland Boys & Girls Club
Sayam De raised funds to buy a projector for the club where he provides free STEM courses through his nonprofit.

SAN RAMON, CA — A California High School junior raised enough money to donate a projector to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland, where he has been providing free STEM classes.
Sayam De founded a nonprofit organization called Pi Kids, Inc., which aims to reduce educational inequities by providing coding workshops and classes in libraries and schools throughout the Bay Area. He enlisted 18 other volunteer instructors to teach courses in Raspberry Pi, which teaches young students in underprivileged schools how to build mini computers. For his efforts, he received a President’s Volunteer Service Award and a recognition from San Ramon Vice Mayor Sridhar Verose in 2022.
De started a GoFundMe account to raise money for a projector for the Boys & Girls Club when he realized how much it would help with instruction.

De is continuing to raise funds to get more technology in libraries and schools, host future workshops and hackathons in underserved communities, and launch programs in rural areas. See here to donate.
“Hard work pays off for some students, but not for others. Doesn’t every student deserve the same quality of public school education? It shouldn’t be based on where they were born!” De wrote on his website.
