Second Stranger Alert Issued Near Dougherty Valley HS

Wednesday's incident follows one reported Friday near the high school in San Ramon.

SAN RAMON, CA — For the second time in less than a week, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District reported a "stranger alert" near Dougherty Valley High School.

A student was walking to school Wednesday around 8:30 a.m. on Bayberry View Lane when she was approached by an unknown man, about 40 years old, who was driving a gray four-door Toyota Prius. The man asked the student if she wanted a ride. When she said no, he drove away, according to the district.

Officials are not sure if the incident is tied to one reported Friday. In that case, a Dougherty Valley student was walking home from the campus around 3:35 p.m. when she was approached by an unknown man, about 30 years old, in a black Honda sedan who insisted she take a ride with him. The incident occurred near Japonica Way and Ivy Hill Road, according to the district.

Officials are encouraging anyone who may know something about the incident or individual, to please contact the San Ramon Police Department at 925-973-2700.

The district is encouraging parents to talk to their students of all ages about safe practices while walking to and from school:
- Do not talk to strangers, even if they know your name.
- Always walk directly to and from school using the same path every day.
- Always walk or ride your bike with a group of friends.
- Run directly to school or home if you are approached by a stranger.
- Immediately notify a school official or parent.
