'Spare The Air' Alert Issued Tuesday And Wednesday In Bay Area
Bay Area residents cannot burn wood, fire logs or other fuel indoors or outdoors as wildfire smoke hampers local air quality.

BAY AREA, CA — Bay Area residents are under a Spare the Air Alert Tuesday and Wednesday, meaning they can't burn wood, fire logs or other solid fuel indoors or outdoors, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said Tuesday.
That means the use of devices such as fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves and outdoor fire pits are banned, the district said in a news release. Stay indoors with windows closed, if possible, if there is a smoke smell in your neighborhood.
Smoke can irritate eyes and airways.

“Multiple wildfires inside and outside of the Bay Area are creating an unhealthy breathing environment,” said Jack Broadbent, executive officer of the Air District in the news release. “With the added risk of COVID-19 on respiratory health, it’s crucial that we all do our part to reduce air pollution and take precautions to reduce exposure.”
