• Bissell Pet Foundation's 'Empty The Shelters' campaign waves adoption fees through May 17 (keyt.com) — Santa Maria residents can currently adopt vaccinated, fixed, and microchipped pets from Santa Barbara County Animal Services with all adoption fees waived through May 17, thanks to the Empty the Shelters campaign. Local shelters, including Santa Maria’s, have already placed dozens of animals and are hoping more families step up, especially for older bonded dogs and other pets needing homes. 
• Wife of Santa Maria Man Released From Immigration Facility After Weeks of Holding (keyt.com) — A Santa Maria man’s wife has been released from a Texas immigration detention facility after being held since April, while trying to fly back to Santa Maria with their young daughter. The five-year-old, a U.S. citizen born on the Central Coast, had already been reunited with her father in Santa Maria as her mother remained detained.
