Santa Barbara Housing Officials Survey Local Rents To Reflect True Housing Costs (keyt.com) — Santa Barbara renters, landlords, and property managers are being asked to complete a short survey so local housing officials can better document actual rents across the city and county. Your anonymous responses could help push federal housing authorities to adjust Fair Market Rent limits, potentially affecting future housing assistance levels. The survey is open through November 29 and takes about 10 minutes.
   

2. Santa Barbara City College hires private investigator to improve campus safety - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — Santa Barbara City College is bringing in a private investigator to review and strengthen campus safety procedures after ICE vehicle staging and several recent lockdowns raised concerns. Trustees approved a $70,000 contract with former Santa Barbara Police assistant chief Kenneth Kushner, who will work with Campus Safety through December to assess current practices and recommend improvements.
   

3. Exploring Off-Trail on the Channel Islands (independent.com) — A free Trail Talks presentation on exploring the California Channel Islands' unique plant life is happening this Thursday evening at the Faulkner Gallery in the Santa Barbara Public Library. Herbarium collections manager Annie Lamont-Ayers will share stories from her Channel Islands fieldwork and show how tools like iNaturalist can help Santa Barbara residents better understand and document plants on local trails.
   

4. SBART Press Luncheon: Rivalry Week is Here (independent.com) — Santa Barbara sports fans have a packed Rivalry Week ahead, capped by Friday's 66th annual Big Game between Santa Barbara High and San Marcos at Warkentin Stadium. Local athletes and coaches highlighted big performances in football, volleyball, water polo and cross-country, while this week's schedule features multiple crosstown matchups among San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara High, Bishop Diego and Laguna Blanca.
   

5. UC Santa Barbara Lagoon Area Fire Burns Bad Grass and Clears a Path for Native Flowers (keyt.com) — Smoke you may have seen near the UC Santa Barbara lagoon Monday came from a planned prescribed burn, not a wildfire. Santa Barbara County Fire and partner agencies are using controlled fire to clear invasive grasses so native plants and wildflowers can return by spring, including at a second site near Coal Oil Point west of Storke Road.
