David 'Doc' Nipper of Santa Barbara, 1944-2026 (noozhawk.com) — Santa Barbara is mourning David "Doc" Nipper, a beloved dentist who served local patients for more than 50 years before retiring in 2020. Remembered for his kindness, craftsmanship, and community spirit, he is survived by close family, including children and grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held October 15 at the Cabrillo Pavilion on East Cabrillo Boulevard.
   

2. Caltrans: Highway 101 Montecito construction zone as ready as can be for El Niño - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — Highway 101 construction through Montecito, a key route into Santa Barbara, is expected not to worsen potential El Niño flooding thanks to upgraded drainage and ongoing work near Hot Springs Road. Caltrans and SBCAG officials say the broader Carpinteria-to-Santa Barbara project, including new carpool lanes and interchange upgrades, remains on schedule, with the Montecito segment targeted for completion by late 2026 and full corridor work by 2028.
   

3. Tails wag for Tails of Hope in Goleta (keyt.com) — A Santa Barbara County Animal Care Foundation fundraiser in nearby Goleta brought adoptable dogs, a three-legged cat, and rabbits together with local supporters at Rancho La Patera Stow House. With auctions, wine, and family-friendly bubble entertainment, the event raised awareness and funds for County Animal Services, which organizers say remains the county's most critical and underfunded animal welfare agency.
   

4. Coastal Cleanup Day volunteers pick up over 5,000 pounds of litter - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — Santa Barbara County volunteers just removed more than 5,000 pounds of trash from 73 miles of coastline and waterways during Coastal Cleanup Day, with strong support from the City of Santa Barbara. More than 955 people pitched in at 37 sites, uncovering everything from cigarette butts and food wrappers to quirky items like a rocking chair and 80 pounds of copper wire.
