The case, involving a 1-year-old bulldog that reportedly drowned, has already prompted protests, temporary suspension of daycare services, and renewed scrutiny as the business resumes full operations.
   

2. Santa Barbara County nearly triples Sable Offshore's coastal fee (amedpost.com) — Santa Barbara County supervisors have nearly tripled the annual coastal mitigation fee on Sable Offshore's Santa Ynez Unit, boosting funding for local coastal projects from trails to school aquariums. The higher fee, retroactive to Sable's recent restart of offshore oil production, comes amid ongoing legal battles over drilling along the Santa Barbara coast and could shape future environmental restoration work nearby.
   

3. Taste of the Vine Raises More Than $500k for Diabetes Research (independent.com) — Santa Barbara residents helped raise more than $500,000 for Sansum Diabetes Research Institute at the recent Taste of the Vine gala at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum. With local wineries, auctions featuring Santa Barbara Bowl tickets, and emotional stories from families, the event will fund research, education, and care programs that directly support people living with diabetes throughout the Santa Barbara community.
   

4. Man Arrested Following Felony Assault Incident Near Highway 101 (independent.com) — A woman was allegedly threatened, doused with lighter fluid, and nearly struck with a wooden stake at a homeless encampment near southbound Highway 101 and Sheffield Drive in Santa Barbara County. Deputies later arrested 47-year-old Jason Tucker at the encampment and booked him into Santa Barbara County Main Jail on multiple felony charges, while the victim received on-scene medical care.
   

5. Patterson Point Supportive Housing Complex Opens in Goleta (noozhawk.com) — A new 24-unit supportive housing complex, Patterson Point, has opened in nearby Goleta under the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara, offering formerly homeless residents stable studios and on-site services. Local leaders, including Rep. Salud Carbajal and Supervisor Laura Capps, say the $23 million project is a key step in addressing the thousands of people experiencing homelessness across Santa Barbara County.
